Kurt's asked us to replace the front end on his '59. The car was VERY poorly repaired and entire front end needed replaced. Kurt took on the task of removing the front end only to find more damage. The plan is to replace the upper firewall and replace the entire front end. Stay tuned !
*May 1st 2018 - We have the car here - It was originally blue and it is a '59.  The car was a 2 top car (hardtop and soft top). It also was a power top car and a power window car (1of 587)!!
The prior repairs were/are ......well......lets just say less than standard. I literally broke out the rockers and the front end repairs with my bare hands. (not good) We are going to also replace the rockers on both sides as well as redo all the door hinges.......
* May 6, 2018 - We removed the
upper firewall. Someone cut into it on both sides when trying to do a "repair". After we cleaned up the old adhesive we bonded the new firewall on.
* May 16, 2018 - The right rocker is fitted and screwed down after we removed all the old adhesive (someone tried to use "kitty hair" body filler to bond the rocker on - yeah it didnt hold.....)
* July 22, 2018 - ALOT has happened to Miss Daisy !!! - I apologize for being slow on the updates - I will get more photos up
- We have installed both rocker panels - both were heavily damaged and POORLY repaired. We removed both rocker panels and glued in new replacements from Corvette Image. They fit perfect !
- When we mocked up both rocker we noticed a HUGE gap at the rear wheel opening - ???? What we found is both rear wheel opening had been cut and opened up - probably for larger rear wheels and tires - It looks like Miss Daisy was an ex Pro Street car or drag car.
- We ordered wheel opening bond strips and glued them in to give the wheel opening their proper size and opening. We then finished the quarters with body filler to give them nice smooth finish.
- We removed all the door hinge nut plates that were POORLY installed and riveted in the correct nut plates from Corvette Central. We blasted the original hinges and prepared them to be installed.
- After all the set backs, we are finally ready to install the front end. We riveted in new core support baffles and installed the core support. The bonding areas have been scuffed preparing for new adhesive.
* July 28, 2018 - Milestone - The new Corvette Image front end is bonded on. We bond the center section of the firewall and dash. Tomorrow we will bond both sides, Monday we will bond the inner fenders....then we ill hang the doors and hood.
* July 29, 2018 - Milestone - The front end is completely bonded on - we bonded the RH side first, then the left had side, then the two inner fenders. We used both Glasin and SEM bonding adhesive. Super Strong and back to being in one piece. Miss Daisy is looking much better !
* Oct 3, 2018 - Wow time is flying - we have been doing little things, finishing up the rockers - they had been previous cut - so repairing the small cuts so look OE - We smoothed the windshield channel - We smooth some of the squeeze out in the inner fenders - we hung the core support and the hood - We did installed the drivers hinges and hung the drivers door and it fit pretty darn well.
We are finishing up the passenger door jam - then we will install the hinges and hang the passengers door. -
*Oct 25, 2018 - Kurt and his wife came and inspected the car. I think both are happy with the outcome. We got the green light to continue with the repairs. We think the car was a Pro Street or Drag car - the back half from inside the gas tank area thru the trunk was removed as one piece and last re-installed. The re-install was not very pretty or very strong. We are going to break/grind out all the old Kitty Hair and repair it right. We also are going to put the body on one of my body dollies to do the underside repairs
* Nov. 28, 2018 - We have a new body dolly for the 59 - We are going to lift off the body and put it on this new jig. Then we will start repairing the floor, set the doors, do any body work and install the moldings.
* Jan 27, 2019 - Miss Daisy is sitting pretty on her new body dolly. Very happy - the body lined up PERFECT and mounted to the dolly with NO SHIMS - body sat perfectly flat
Very excited to start final body work - fitting door and gaps and fixing the floor.
* March 4, 2019 - Sorry for the long delay - we are working on Miss Daisy - the LH door is hung and fits VERY nice - I am in the process of gapping the door. We fixed the LH body mount - we fixed the broken glass and installed a new metal body mount. We will be tackling the rear of the car. We have already removed the prior poor repairs at the rear body and removed the metal strips and pop rivets someone installed.....
* March 11, 2019 - We spent some time looking over the rear end repairs - someone back halved the car - either Pro Street or a Drag car - we can see where the rear trunk floor was cut out of the car, up thru the wheel wells and into the gas tank area. We proposed the idea of replacing the entire the "clip". and sectioning it in. We spoke with the owner and he wanted to keep as much of the original car as possible.....SO.... This weekend - we cut out what had previously been cut out and re installed poorly - we are going to sand down all the poor repaired and install it correctly.
* April 29, 2019 - We removed the entire back half of the trunk and fuel tank area. It was so poorly installed with cloth and kitty hair - what a mess! - We removed 5 pieces that had been cut out of the car. - We cleaned up all the edges with a Roloc disc to remove all the old kitty hair mess - I started in the fuel tank area using panel welding clamps to secure and locate the panel - back taped the cut line - Filled the crack with VPA (Vette Panel Adhesive) - sanded that smooth and cover the crack with two layers of mat and resin
I have installed 4 of the 5 pieces - the last remaining piece is the trunk floor.
* Jan 31, 2020 - The complete trunk floor is in. Over the winter we laid fiberglass strips over the seams and sanded them smooth - after that we used some filler to smooth out the trunk - I cut off the lower rear body - I will replace with a part from Corvette Image - it was badly damaged and had numerous poor repairs
* April 15, 2020 - Progress is a little slow - we did remove the rear body panel as it was so badly damaged - we have a new rear body from Corvette Image - you can see in the photos. We have finished the majority of the trunk repairs. We clamped the floor pieces in place then filled the seam with VPA. We sanded that flat then covered the seam with a layer of mat fiberglass and sanded that smooth.
Next steps is to fit the rear body panel and bond that in place.
* March 9, 2021 - The trunk and rear body repairs are complete. We have installed all the gas tank area fiberglass and trunk fiberglass. We also install a new rear body panel, a new rear body panel reinforcement, and sectioned in the middle of the upper rear surround.
* July 28, 2021 - The rear end on this 59 is done. We replaced the rear body panel and section in the top of the upper rear surround - the part just below the trunk lid. All the repairs are 100 percent final. Today we screwed in the half moon for the very first time !!!
* Jan 2, 2022 - We are working on the trunk jam, smoothing it and preparing for the trunk lid to be bolted on. We will continue working forward on the car, bodywork and fitting the doors.
